  • James Baird STaff Bio

    What he does: James is called by the session of Community to be a catalyst for outreach with the goal of significantly growing church attendance and membership. He also leads the contemporary worship service working alongside an excellent team of volunteers and staff. In addition to community outreach and contemporary worship, he is also designated with the responsibility for leading and directing the multi-cultural ministries at Community. In collaboration with the pastor and session he will work to develop and implement a "congregatioally-based strategic plan" designed to create a roadmap for the coming 5-years.


    What else he does: He co-creates the outreach and marketing materials for sermon series and special events (Easter/Christmas). He leads a men's ministry group called Trek that meets every Friday at 6:30 am at a local restaurant and he teaches a Sunday morning Bible study called Next Step for any people that would like to learn a little bit more about the scripture focused on in the sermon.


    Where he's from: James' love of travel and the great outdoors helped shape his faith. He also is a fourth generation Presbyterian minister. He attended Trinity College and earned an MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary. He and wife Danielle are proud parents of daughters Ella Macrae and Olivia Gwynn, and son Luke William. James and Danielle are both passionate about mission and have worked together on several small non-profits including Waiting For Water which they helped found. Before joining Community, James previously served as the Interim Minister for Congregational Life and Small Groups at Fremont Presbyterian Church in Sacramento and as the Executive Director of Ministries at Highlands Church in Paso Robles where he is Founding Pastor Emeritus.   • Becca's Staff bio

    What she does: Becca is called by the session of Community to direct and support the spiritual formation and Christian education of children and young adults from birth through college age. She has a family-based approach as she seeks to equip parents to minister to their kids. Alongside her excellent family ministries team, she develops and supervises Sunday school, middle school and high school ministries. In addition she supervises the Music & Discovery, Vacation Bible School and All-Church Family Camp.

    Where she's from: Becca Bateman is no stranger to Community. She has a great history serving as Seminary Intern, Middle School Director and Youth Director here, while completing her studies at Fuller Seminary between 2004-2007. While at Calvary Presbytery in South Pasadena, she has been very active at the Presbytery level, showing her dedication to the Reformed Tradition and strengthening her leadership skills over the past 5 years. Becca's enthusiasm, creativity and experience brings Children's Ministries at SMCC to a new level, providing strong Christian nurturing, and strong faith formation for our children and parents from infants through elementary school.   • Skip's New Staff BIo

    What he does: Skip is called by the session of Community to ensure the smooth and professional operation of the Church's facility, office/administration, finances, human resources, and communication. He is tasked with providing administrative support for program staff and all boards, committees and teams. He supervises the office staff and coordinates all weddings and memorials and volunteers. he assists pastoral staff and maintains church records including minutes of the session and membership rolls. He also oversees all mailings, publications and flyers at the church.

    Where he's from: A native of Illinois, Skip graduated from Aurora University, in Illinois in 1988 with a double major in Communications and Christian Studies and a minor in Accounting. He received his Master of Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary, Oak Brook, IL in 1993. Not long after being ordained to pastoral ministry in the Church of the Brethren, he discovered his true calling to church administration. Skip has previously served as Co-Pastor of South Bay Community Church of the Brethren in Redondo Beach, California and as Administrator at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena.
